Radio Paradise iOS apps now support FLAC caching

For some years now, my favorite streaming radio station has been Radio Paradise. Run by Bill and Rebecca Goldsmith and completely listener-supported, it describes itself thus:

RP is a blend of many styles and genres of music, carefully selected and mixed by two real human beings. You’ll hear modern and classic rock, world music, electronica, even a bit of classical and jazz. What you won’t hear are random computer-generated playlists or mind-numbing commercials.

I’ve discovered numerous artists from their very eclectic mix of music, some of which you’ve seen in my videos. Over the years they’ve added some great features to their system, including skipping songs, “Play something different” and the ability to cache ahead on mobile devices to avoid using cellular data. Signing up as a member, you can rate songs on both the (beta) web streamer, and their iOS apps. From my highest-rated playlists, I’ve created playlists in TIDAL which I use both for my own enjoyment and to evaluate equipment. The main downside to Radio Paradise has been that their streaming was limited to lossless formats. However I was very pleasantly surprised to see in the latest update to their iOS apps that it is now possible to cache lossless FLAC, which will be good news for people like myself that use high-end digital gear for listening and want the best quality available.

If you haven’t already, I recommend checking out their radio station. As well as from their web site and apps, it is available in iTunes under the “Eclectic” radio category.
